Our Mission:  The Virginia Athletics Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, strives to support a preeminent intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Virginia by providing student-athletes the opportunity to achieve academic and athletic excellence.

Dear Cavalier Fans,

The accomplishments of UVA student-athletes during the 2016-17 academic year were remarkable. Their success in the classroom included a spring GPA of 3.102 (highest semester GPA since 2003) and culminated in the awarding of 123 undergraduate and 14 master’s degrees.

Men’s tennis captured its third consecutive NCAA Championship, its fourth in five years. They also won the ACC Championship as did the rowing and field hockey teams. Three student-athletes won individual national championships and 14 student-athletes were crowned individual ACC champions.

Outside of the classroom and athletics competition, student-athletes generously gave hundreds of hours of volunteer service to benefit various organizations and schools in the Charlottesville and University communities.

UVA student-athletes are able to attend one of the nation’s most prestigious universities while competing in the sport they love because of the support provided by VAF donors.

While it would be impossible to completely reciprocate the generosity of VAF members, donors to VAF receive membership benefits such as:

We are grateful to all of our members for their support of Virginia Athletics and look forward to a successful 2017.

Go Hoos!

Annual operational support for each of the University’s 14 women’s and 13 men’s sports is provided through a combination of athletics department funds and donor contributions. This includes but is not limited to recruiting costs, team travel and equipment.  Learn More

Coaches 10

Working with sports supervisors and the athletics director, head coaches identify operational needs that arise outside of their annual budgets. These may include foreign tours training trips and specialized equipment. When these needs arise, Coaches 10 funds provide a way for donors to support these specific initiatives.  Learn More

An endowment gift is one of the most powerful gifts a donor can make to Virginia Athletics. Scholarship Endowments support the 316.6 athletic scholarships allowed by the NCAA and Operational Endowments serve as an ongoing source of financial support for a designated team.  Learn More

The needs of individual sports are prioritized through coaches’ discussions with athletics administrators. Once an identified facility project has gone through the University’s approval process, the athletics department depends on the Virginia Athletics Foundation to raise the funds to finance the project and provide an endowment to support its operation and ongoing maintenance. Current projects include the Football Operations Center, Softball Field Expansion, Davenport Field Renovation, UVA Golf Facility at Birdwood Golf Course and the UVA Tennis Complex at Boar’s Head Sports Club.

Today there are 700 student-athletes in 27 intercollegiate programs at the University of Virginia. Our generous donors help to fully fund all 316.6 scholarships allowed by the NCAA, the student-athlete academic experience and a portion of the athletics operational budget, that includes recruiting costs, team travel and equipment. Thank you!

Additionally, the Foundation spearheads all fundraising campaigns for the renovation of existing athletics facilities and the construction of new facilities.
