Why do you choose to give to the VAF and support Virginia Athletics?
I was first introduced to VAF when I received season football tickets as a graduation present from my parents who made a donation to the VAF in my name. Now 20 years later, we have expanded our seats and our whole family enjoys supporting Virginia Athletics. We continue to support the VAF because we really appreciate the student-athletes’ dedication and ability to balance a challenging academic and athletic schedule while representing UVA. Our kids are active in sports and it has been great for them to see the many UVA student-athlete role models who display great sportsmanship. We look forward to many more years of exciting UVA sports! Go Hoos! — Brian Albans
What are your favorite Virginia sports memories?
My wife, Maren, and I met at UVA and one of our favorite sports memories is the UVA-Florida State upset in ’95. I remember being in the temporary student bleachers with my roommates and seeing the unbelievable goal line stand in the final seconds for the Cavaliers to pull out the win. We rushed the field and I recall seeing one of the goalposts being carried to the Lawn and on to Rugby Road as a trophy for the many victory parties that night. My daughter, Emily, is a competitive swimmer and her favorite memory was meeting Olympic gold medal winner Leah Smith last fall at the Fan Fest before the game. Our son, John, enjoyed meeting the fall sports teams at JPJ and his favorite memories are Matt Johns signing his poster and watching the baseball team win the 2015 National Championship.
