The McCue Center opened in 1990 and currently functions as the daily home for UVA’s football program. As the landscape of the ACC has changed, so have the needs of the football program. Though updates have been made over the last 24 years, the building cannot be configured to accommodate the needs of the program. While academic excellence continues to be an important factor in a recruit’s choice of school, facilities also have a significant impact. It is critical to upgrade our football facilities to address deficiencies that have been identified by coaches, student-athletes and recruits. Within the ACC alone, several of UVA’s competitors have a facility dedicated exclusively to football.

This new center will impact the daily lives of our football student-athletes, coaches and staff by providing the very best everyday facilities for the current team, while also sending a strong message to recruits that Virginia Football is working hard to be one of the elite programs in the country. It will include an expanded academic suite to support tutoring as well as individual and group study to help us reach our goal of a 100% graduation rate. Student-athletes will also have their own lounge and meeting spaces where they can build community and strengthen team relationships. In addition, players will have access to state-of-the-art football specific equipment and training.

The likely site for this facility is to the east side of the McCue Center and north of the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility, overlooking the practice fields. The final location and programming will be determined at the conclusion of an ongoing University coordinated North Grounds master planning study. Portions of the McCue Center will be repurposed to provide a dedicated weight room and training facility for UVA’s Olympic Sports.

This project will be funded with donor contributions and will provide a variety of naming opportunities that will be published at a later date. Please contact the Virginia Athletics Foundation at 800-626-8723 / 434-982-5555 to invest in the future of Virginia Football and help us build this new facility.
