All-Sports Reunion 2016 RECAP
The 10th VAF All-Sports Reunion was held September 23-25 in Charlottesville. Over 500 UVA student-athlete alumni and their guests attended events and games throughout the weekend.
ACC and NCAA championship teams who reach their 10-, 25- and 40-year milestone anniversaries receive special recognition by the Virginia Athletics Foundation. The following anniversary teams were recognized at halftime of the Central Michigan versus UVA football game.
10-year anniversary (2006)
25-year anniversary (1991)
40-year anniversary (1976)
Featured highlights of the weekend were the football game and All-Sports Tailgate. The Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) provided complimentary football tickets to all returning student-athlete alumni and organized a tailgate, which was held prior to the football game. Approximately 300 attendees enjoyed a breakfast spread by Graves Mountain Lodge, musical entertainment by Chris Grooms, lawn games and a lounge area. The lively atmosphere provided a fun start to the day for student-athlete alumni and their families.
In addition to the football game and tailgate, several sports hosted alumni games, open practices, receptions and gatherings for alumni to reconnect with team members and coaches. VAF is appreciative of our Cavaliers for Life for their commitment to Virginia Athletics.
The All-Sports Reunion brings student-athlete alumni back to the University for a weekend of planned activities such as an all-inclusive tailgate surrounding a football game and sport-specific events. During the football game, we recognize ACC and NCAA Championship teams who reach their 10-, 25- and 40-year anniversaries. The VAF hosts Reunions with planned events every other year.
The Virginia Athletics Foundation encourages student-athlete alumni to return to Grounds each year for a chance to reunite with former teammates, classmates and friends through the All-Sports Reunion or Homecomings. In even years (i.e. 2018, 2020, etc.), the All-Sports Reunion brings student-athlete alumni back to the University for a weekend of planned activities such as an all-inclusive tailgate surrounding a football game and sport-specific events. In alternating odd years (i.e. 2017, 2019, etc.), student-athlete alumni are invited to return for Homecomings Weekend to spend time with teammates. This provides a less structured schedule for student-athlete alumni to spend time on Grounds attending other University functions, as well as the football game, and creating their own informal gatherings with former teammates. Every year, regardless of the event schedule, VAF and UVA Athletics recognize ACC and NCAA Championship teams who reach their 10-, 25- and 40-year anniversaries.
